South Africa could get bonus for World Cup goals

The country's soccer association wants to give its team $131,000 for each goal it scores at the World Cup next month, a move designed to inspire the team

Chief executive Leslie Sedibe said Wednesday on a local TV station that SAFA would "dearly love" to pay the one million rand reward. Sedibe said the last thing SAFA wanted was for the host nation to not qualify for the knockout stages and players "to go home with nothing."

His comments came the same day that organizers conceded their budget to stage the tournament was severely stretched. He was quoted by the SAPA news agency last week as saying the World Cup had "blown" the country's soccer budget.

No World Cup for Nistelrooy

Veteran striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been has been left out of the Netherlands' 26-man training squad ahead of this summer's 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Van Nistelrooy, 33, retired from international football after Euro 2008, but hoped to force his way into coach Bert van Marwijk's plans after making himself available for international selection again.

Van Marwijk, who will meet his players in two separate two-day training camps next week, also opted not to call on players involved in the Champions League final.

That will mean Bayern Munich duo Arjen Robben and Mark van Bommel as well as Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder will remain with their clubs.

Uncapped duo Jeremain Lens from AZ Alkmaar and Ajax's Vurnon Anita were given their first call-ups.

Van Marwijk will name his 30-man provisional squad for the FIFA World Cup on 11 May. The Dutch are in Group E of this summer's finals, where they will face Denmark, Japan and Cameroon

World Cup 2010 Official Theme Song by Shakira and Fleshly Ground

The title of the song is WAKA WAKA (This time for Africa).

Heres the lyrics:

Oooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehh
You're a good soldier
Choosing your battles
Pick yourself up
And dust yourself off
Get back in the saddle

You're on the front line
Everyone's watching
You know it's serious
We are getting closer
This isn't over

The pressure is on
You feel it
But you got it all
Believe it

When you fall get up, oh oh
If you fall get up, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
Cuz this is Africa
Tsamina mina, eh eh
Waka waka, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa

Listen to your God
This is our motto
Your time to shine
Don't wait in line
Y vamos por todo

People are raising
Their expectations
Go on and feed them
This is your moment
No hesitations

Today's your day
I feel it
You paved the way
Beleive it

If you get down get up, oh oh
When you get down get up, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa
Tsamina mina, eh eh
Waka waka, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
Anawa a a
Tsamina mina, eh eh
Waka waka, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa

(Lady Singing)

Voice: Tsamina mina, Anawa a a
Tsamina mina
Tsamina mina, Anawa a a

Tsamina mina, eh eh
Waka waka, eh eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
Anawa a a
Tsamina mina, eh eh

Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa

(2x) Django eh eh (2x)

Official Logo of the world cup 2010

The match ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be named the "Jabulani", made by Adidas, which means "bringing joy to everyone" in isiZulu. The number eleven plays a prominent role in the new technologically advanced ball:
it is the eleventh World Cup match ball made by the German sports equipment maker;
it features eleven colours, one for each player on the pitch;
there are eleven official languages of South Africa.
Also, the event will start on the eleventh day of June and
End on the eleventh day of July.

There have already been critics of the ball. FC Barcelona's goalkeeper, Víctor Valdés, said: "I'm scared about the ball, it's unpredictable"

Prize money and club payments

The total prize money on offer for the tournament was confirmed by FIFA as $420 million (WOW not bad), a 60 percent increase on the 2006 tournament. Before the tournament, each participating team would receive $1 million, for preparation costs. Once at the tournament, teams exiting at the group stage would receive $8 million. Thereafter, the prize money would be distributed as follows:

    * $9 million - Round of 16
    * $18 million - Quarter-finals
    * $20 million - Semi-finals
    * $24 million - Runners up
    * $30 million - Winners

In a first for the World Cup, there would also be payments made by FIFA to the domestic clubs of the players representing their national teams at the tournament( GOOD Idea!). This would see a total of €26 million being paid to domestic clubs, amounting to just over €1,000 per player per day.

This was the result of an agreement reached in 2008 between FIFA and European clubs to disband the G-14 and drop their claims for compensation dating back to 2005 over the financial cost of injuries sustained to their players while on international duty, such as that from Belgian club Charleroi S.C. for injury to Morroco's Abdelmajid Oulmers in a friendly game in 2004, and from English club Newcastle United for an injury to England's Michael Owen in the 2006 World Cup.
